crosstalk issues in vlsi design

VLSI Academy - Crosstalk In electronics, crosstalk is any phenomenon by which a signal transmitted on one circuit or channel of a transmission system creates an undesired effect in another circuit or channel. In this series of videos, we will discuss about various issues which we should take care of Physical design. The disturbance at 'A' can potentially cause a disturbance at 'V', because of the mutual coupling capacitance, and if the disturbance at 'V' crosses noise thresholdof the receiving gate 'R', then it may change the logic at the output of 'R' i.e., output of 'R', which is supposed to be at logic '1', might switch to logic '0', as it senses a logic '1' at its input, due to the noise induced on its input by the disturbance at 'A'. Crosstalk is a very severe effect especially in lower technology node and high-speed circuits and it could be one of the main reason of chip failure. It has effects on the setup and hold timing of the design. Crosstalk in VLSI interconnections Abstract: We address the problem of crosstalk computation and reduction using circuit and layout techniques in this paper. We provide easily computable expressions for crosstalk amplitude and pulse width in resistive, capacitively coupled lines. Double Spacing : Increase the spacing between the aggressor net and victim net, so that the cross coupling capacitance decreases as spacing increases and thereby reduces the effect of crosstalk. As integrated circuit technologies advance toward smaller geometries, crosstalk effects become increasingly important compared to …

Crosstalk in Physical Design Crosstalk is the undesirable electrical interaction between two or more physically adjacent nets due to capacitive cross-coupling. Refer to diagram below to understand noise-induced bump characteristics at different noise margin lev… Shielding : Placing a ground net (Vss) in between the aggressor net and victim net so that the voltage will discharge through this and save from crosstalk issue. In the next section, we would discuss the crosstalk mechanism in VLSI Design. This video covers the basics that you need to start with analysing crosstalk noise & crosstalk delay reports in VLSI Digital IC Designs. So it is important to do crosstalk delay analysis and fix the timing considering the effect of crosstalk. Crosstalk delay may cause setup and hold timing violation. Crosstalk delay occurs when both aggressor and victim nets switch together.
