As others have commented, the lobby was still under construction, but we did not hear much construction noise during our 2 night stay.
I stayed at the hotel for three nights (November 3rd to the 6th) and the problems started on the evening of the 4th. This is an old place that needs to be thoroughly cleaned and exterminated. Please see our partners for more details. I think it might be significant that the hotel had still not been totally renovated and had previously been an SRO hotel. It was one of their more expensive rooms and therefore we did expect something above average, and this it certainly was. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Belleclaire. What else can I say? When we complained to the front office staff they seemed to be nonchalant about it and made no effort to rectify the situation with a room change. Our room was located on the 1st floor and was right near the elevator. We were extremely happy with it, and the bed was one of the better hotel beds we have slept in. The room was quite spacious, especially for NYC, and was clean and modern. NO BED BUGS found in my cursory inspection under the mattress and NO BITES. Room was a nice size, bathroom was a good size, bed was comfortable. The location of the hotel was convenient for us - close to subway stations, lots of eateries nearby and close to the park and museums. It was a corner deluxe Queen room and it was fantastic. Small hotel with a non existent lobby that was under renovation. The hotel staff were excellent, giving us easy to follow directions for things to see and do or find and the most delicious Pizza and Cookie place!

They put me into a different room, but on the same f. loor (room 631 to 615) and about an hour later, I get a call from their doctor trying to charge me $500 for an in-room visit. I noticed at first small bites on my legs that same night and the following morning I had about a total of 15 bites through out my whole body. I lived on the Upper West Side for decades, and have ben living in a much admired condo building (64 units) in Florida for the last 9 years. The staff, the upper west side and myself look forward to another trip soon!!
