Film music festival World Soundtrack Awards, that celebrates its 17th edition on 18th and 19th of October 2017 under the motto Jazz@The Movies, focusing on Jazz music on the occasion of the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of its birth, has launched a crowdfunding campaign that ends next Sunday 20th of August. A jury composed out of international film and music professionals will carefully select the final three (3) compositions. Yared, Desplat, and Abels’ music will be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and Vlaams Radiokoor, pre-recorded in the orchestra’s native Brussels, and will be part of the live event and livestream.

Each year, the World Soundtrack Academy (an initiative of Film Fest Gent) organises a composition contest for young international film composers. Among the composers competing for the Discovery Award 2020 are the German composer Dascha Dauenhauer (recently awarded at the German Film Awards for scoring the film Berlin Alexanderplatz) and Bryce Dessner, for his work on the film The Two Popes, after already having collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto on The Revenant. The World Soundtrack Awards will be the closing event of Film Fest Ghent.
Young European film music composers are given the chance to compete for the prize of 2,500 Euros.
