Single 2080 Ti is slower, by far, than SLI 1080 Tis in games that support SLI and at high enough resolutions to not be CPU bottlenecked (4K or higher). There's a lengthy GN video that details this quite well.
Some of my results on the 2080 compared to earlier notes/results are upwards of 10-15%, difference depending on the setting/configuration of the benchmarks. 2080 FE performs generally "better" that the 1080Tis that I ran previously. Given my experiences today with the 2080 FE and also with the earlier 1080Ti cards - I'd actually stick with the 2080 - even paying up to $100-150 more. I had *almost* settled on keeping the FTW3 - but ultimately returned it as well because it was quite large in my current case - and I'm thinking about moving down to a slightly smaller case. Neither will run 4k at full quality.

Bottom line: Only consider upgrading from the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti to the RTX 2080 Ti if you have a high refresh-rate 1440p or 4K monitor. And others here are absolutely right - there's a (potentially) big price difference between 1080Ti and 2080 to consider that may/should influence your decision.

With that in mind - I then swapped out and ended up trying a few different 1080Tis (thanks to Micro Center's generous return policy) - it was also about this time that the rumors were running about the 2080 launch, and I found out about the EVGA step-up program, as well as heard good reviews regarding their products - so I focused on buying EVGA with the potential to step-up to a 2080/Ti depending on price @ launch (more on this below): EVGA 1080Ti SC2 (swap out from above DOA), EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 (swap out from above - due to Labor Day sale - $689 - later returned about 2 weeks later - not satisfied - and began looking around for cheaper 1080Ti prices.. ). But you may view this differently.
