My Ryzen 3600 only has like 65 watts max. I have a 750W PSU. Is it realistic that i7-8700k will require twice as much power as i7-7700k with "just" two more cores? In your case, with a Ryzen 5 3600X and a single GPU, even if you try to heavily overclock your 3600 650W should still be plenty, since the 3600 doesn't have a lot of overclocking headroom out of box in the first place.

I usually prefer getting 750W PSUs since they aren't all that expensive compared to a 650W and usually last around 7 to 10 years. No way the 8700k is pulling over 300w by itself.

Although you might not be able to get the heaviest overclocks out of it. I would expect it to still work, and just be throttling on heavy load, but I just get a black screen.
